New Delhi, April 22 – Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar spoke out on Tuesday about some recent comments he made regarding a Supreme Court decision. He said that everything said by government leaders is aimed at serving the country’s best interests, especially when people criticized his views.
A recent Supreme Court ruling said that the President of India must decide on certain bills within three months after the governors send them. Dhankhar mentioned that the courts shouldn’t interfere too much with the work of the government, which he refers to as the “executive.”
At a gathering at Delhi University, he emphasized that every official in the government has an important role and should not be seen as merely ceremonial. He stated that Parliament holds the highest power in the country, and according to the Constitution, no authority should be above it.
He expressed his worries regarding the court ruling that sets a timeline for the President’s decision, questioning whether this is what people intended for democracy in India. Earlier in the month, the Supreme Court said for the first time that the President should act quickly on bills and that if she doesn’t, those bills could automatically become laws. Dhankhar faced criticism for his remarks about the judiciary, with some calling his comments “unconstitutional.”
