Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama surprised Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni by giving her a beautiful scarf for her 48th birthday on Wednesday. To celebrate, Rama kneeled down and sang “tanti auguri,” which means “happy birthday,” while they were at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.
A video of this fun moment quickly went viral online. The scarf was designed by an Italian artist who moved to Albania, Rama told Meloni. Despite having different political views—Meloni’s party is right-wing while Rama leads the Socialist Party—they work well together.
Last year, Meloni and Rama made an agreement to send some migrants from Italy to detention centers in Albania. However, these centers are currently not in use because of some legal issues. At the summit, Italy, Albania, and the United Arab Emirates also signed a big deal to create a subsea connection for renewable energy across the Adriatic Sea, worth at least 1 billion euros ($1 billion)
