President-elect Donald Trump has recently suggested that Vivek Ramaswamy should think about taking the Ohio Senate seat that will soon be open. The seat is currently held by JD Vance, who will leave it empty. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will choose someone to fill this position until the midterm elections in November 2026, when voters will select a new senator.
Ramaswamy, who worked alongside Elon Musk in a project called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), had previously said he wasn’t interested in the Senate seat. However, Trump has been encouraging him to reconsider. A report from The Washington Post says that Trump personally asked Ramaswamy to accept the position if Governor DeWine offers it to him.
DeWine recently visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago, and Ramaswamy has plans to run for governor of Ohio in 2026 after finishing his work with DOGE. This project is expected to conclude by July 4, 2026.

Supporters say being in Congress could help him achieve his goals for the group, especially since he and Musk are looking for big cuts in government spending that need lawmakers’ support.
Some candidates being considered for the Senate appointment include Jon Husted, who is DeWine’s lieutenant governor, and Jane Timken, who ran for Senate in 2022.
Interestingly, Ramaswamy recently faced backlash from Trump supporters after he made comments about the US workforce and supported the H1-B visa, saying, “American culture has embraced mediocrity
