The Supreme Court has asked the government to answer a public interest lawsuit (PIL) about the huge increase in cyber crimes and annoying unwanted calls in India. The court, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar, acknowledged that while government agencies are trying to tackle the issue, they want the Department of Telecommunications to respond to the complaint made by Gowrishankar from Bengaluru.
The PIL asks for telecom companies to use a service called calling name presentation (CNAP). This service shows the caller’s name on your phone when you receive a call. With this feature, people can better decide whether to answer calls, helping to reduce spam or junk calls.
