In recent times, phone call scams have become more common, with tricksters using clever methods to fool innocent people. One man, Shiv Arora, decided to turn the tables on a scammer and shared the funny encounter on Instagram, making the video go viral.
The call came from a Pakistani number, showing a police officer’s photo as the profile picture. The scammer pretended to be a cop and told Arora that his son had been arrested. The scammer demanded money for his son’s release and tried to sound convincing by saying, “Tell me your son’s name, and I will let you speak to him.”
Instead of getting scared, Arora played along. When asked for his son’s name, he jokingly said his own name, “Shiv.” When the scammer wanted to know where his son was, Arora replied, “He is in Moradabad.” When the scammer asked who he was in relation to the boy, Arora humorously said, “Nani” (which means maternal grandmother).
The scammer continued with his story and wanted to speak to the boy’s mother. Arora pretended to bring a woman to the phone. He told her that “Shiv” had been arrested, and she spoke with the caller. Then the scammer put someone on the line pretending to be the son, who dramatically cried out, “Mumma, mumma.” This funny act made Arora laugh so hard that the scammer hung up suddenly.
Arora later shared this funny story on Instagram, telling everyone to be careful and not to give personal information or money to such callers. He also reminded his followers to report any suspicious calls to the local police right away.
The video became a big hit, gathering over fifty million views and lots of comments. Many people shared their own stories about similar scams. One user mentioned, “I got a call from police saying my son was arrested,” while another noted, “My cousin received the same call.”
The scammer’s silly acting also led to funny comments. One person joked that the “son” was probably punished for his bad acting, while another quipped about a ₹20 fee for overacting. Many admired Arora’s sense of humor, saying things like, “Your laughter made me laugh too!”
