Rashida Jones, the President of MSNBC, is stepping down after nearly four years. She made this announcement just before former President Donald Trump is expected to return to the White House. During a staff call, Jones talked about her decision, and many coworkers thanked her for her leadership.
Rebecca Kutler, who is currently the Senior Vice President of Content Strategy, will take over as the interim President after Jones leaves. She has a lot of experience at MSNBC and is ready to face new challenges. Jones has promised to help with the transition for a smooth changeover over the next few months.
This change comes at a time when NBCUniversal is making big plans to form a new company called SpinCo, which will include MSNBC and other channels. Mark Lazarus will lead this new company and praised Jones for her work, especially in maintaining high viewership numbers during tough times.
To address some drops in viewership, MSNBC is also changing its programming. Notably, Rachel Maddow is returning to host her show live five nights a week at 9 p.m. Eastern until April 30. This change aims to attract more viewers during an important time for the network.
