The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of having connections with an NGO after a Class 12 student was caught sending bomb threats to over 400 schools in Delhi.
Delhi Police said the student is tied to an NGO that supports a political party. This NGO has reportedly shown support for Afzal Guru, who was convicted in the Parliament attack. Although the police didn’t name the political party, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that AAP has strong links with NGOs that oppose Afzal Guru’s execution.
In a press conference, Trivedi stated, “We all know AAP is close to NGOs that support Afzal Guru. In 2015, there were protests on his death anniversary, and AAP didn’t act for months. Who are these NGO people, and do they have ties to AAP? Also, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s parents supported Afzal Guru’s plea for mercy.”
Trivedi asked AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal to clear up the party’s relationship with this NGO. He questioned, “What is AAP’s role in this situation? If young people are acting this way, what messages are these NGOs giving to our kids? We want answers!”
The Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with votes counted on February 8.
What Did Delhi Police Say?
Delhi Police tracked the student after he sent a series of threatening emails. Special Commissioner of Police Madhup Tewari explained, “The emails were hard to trace because he used a VPN for privacy. We were worried about a possible terror threat.”
They managed to find out that the minor had sent around 400 threat emails. Police took his laptop and mobile for examination after discovering that his father works with the NGO involved in the case. The NGO has been speaking out against Afzal Guru’s execution and is connected to a political party. The police are still investigating.
This incident is part of a worrying trend. Recently, over 16 schools received bomb threats, creating panic among students, teachers, and parents, leading to the call of bomb squads and other emergency teams.
