In a touching event in Sydney, Australia, over 900 people came together to play Monopoly to honor a young girl named Alegra Vasiliou. Alegra was only six years old when she sadly passed away from brain cancer in 2017. She loved playing Monopoly with her parents, and to celebrate her memory, her family and the Little Legs Foundation organized a big game on March 30.
This exciting event aimed to raise money and spread awareness about childhood brain cancer. A total of 918 players gathered at 150 tables, all playing Monopoly at the same time. They not only had fun but also broke a Guinness World Record for the most people playing the game simultaneously!
Alegra’s mother, Sue-Ellan Vasiliou, shared her feelings, saying, “We wanted to create a place where everyone could come together, celebrate Alegra, and achieve something amazing while helping raise awareness for brain cancer.” She added, “Breaking a Guinness World Record is rare, and having a special version of Monopoly just for Alegra is even more special. She has her own Army of supporters, and together we can make a big difference!”
The game played was a unique version called ‘Alegra’s Army,’ featuring Alegra’s picture. The game was sold to help raise funds for cancer research, making it both fun and meaningful.
The Little Legs Foundation has done this event two times now. Last time, they were only 30 players short of breaking the record of 733 participants. This time, they received incredible support and achieved their goal. While the Vasiliou family is not planning another Monopoly event right away, they are open to future ideas!
