Blue Origin, the space company started by Jeff Bezos, is getting ready to try launching its new rocket, called New Glenn, again after a delay. Originally set to launch on Monday morning, the rocket wasn’t able to lift off because ice built up in a part of the rocket’s system that helps operate hydraulic systems. The team ran out of time to fix it.
The New Glenn rocket is really big, standing at 320 feet tall, and is meant to carry a prototype satellite into space. The launch also faced other delays because of bad weather, including strong winds and thick clouds, which might delay the launch again on the next try.
New Glenn is named after John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth. It’s actually five times taller than Blue Origin’s smaller rocket, New Shepard, which takes people to the edge of space in Texas.
Bezos took part in the launch countdown at a control center near NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. Despite the setbacks, he remains hopeful and says they’ll keep trying no matter what happens.
