14-year-old Ira Jadhav from Mumbai has made history by becoming the first Indian girl to score a triple hundred in Under-19 cricket! She achieved this amazing feat by hitting 346 runs against Meghalaya in the U19 Women’s One Day Trophy on Sunday.
Ira, a student at the famous Sharadashram Vidyamandir school (the same school attended by cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar), scored her runs in just 157 balls. She hit 42 fours and 16 sixes along the way. This is not only a record for India but also the highest score ever in Youth List A matches by an Indian! However, the world record belongs to South Africa’s Lizelle Lee, who scored 427 in 2010.
Even though Ira didn’t get picked in the last Women’s Premier League auction, she is on the standby list for India’s U19 T20 World Cup team that will take place in Malaysia.
Ira really admires fellow Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues. In her impressive innings, she shared a strong partnership of 274 runs for the second wicket with her captain, Hurley Gala, who scored 116 runs off just 79 balls. Thanks to their efforts, Mumbai scored an unbelievable total of 563 runs for just 3 wickets! In response, Meghalaya struggled and was bowled out for only 19 runs, with six players getting out without scoring, leading to a whopping 544-run victory for Mumbai!
