Moira Salmond, the widow of Alex Salmond, is upset about comments that people are making about her late husband. She asked critics to “let Alex rest in peace.” Moira’s remarks came after Nicola Sturgeon talked about Alex Salmond’s behavior in a recent interview. Sturgeon, who used to work closely with Alex, said she often had to step in when he was being hard on others. Their friendship turned sour in later years.
Alex Salmond passed away from a heart attack on October 12, 2024, in North Macedonia at the age of 69. Moira released a statement through her lawyers. In it, she shared her sadness and how her family is still mourning. She said, “It has been very hurtful to read comments from people trying to harm his reputation, especially now when he can’t defend himself.”
Moira expressed her wish for the negative comments to stop. “Attacking someone who has died feels very unfair. Please think about how this affects his family,” she said. “From now on, let Alex rest in peace.”
A memorial service for Alex took place at St Giles’ Cathedral on November 30, with many important people from Scottish and UK politics attending. On the BBC’s Sunday Show, current First Minister John Swinney was asked about Sturgeon’s comments. He said it’s known that Alex could be tough with people, and sometimes they had to remind him to behave better.
