In Balasore, Odisha, the district administration has put a curfew in place in some areas due to an upcoming eviction drive targeting illegal occupants of railway land. This action comes because certain people have occupied land that is needed for building a new railway line. This new line will run from Narayangarh in West Bengal to Bhadrak, passing through Balasore, and aims to lower traffic and improve travel connections.

The curfew will be in effect from 4 AM to 10 PM on January 11 and 12, 2025. Areas affected include Aradbazar to the vegetable market, Haripur to Darji Pokhari Chak, Kasimila bridge to Fuladi Chak, the Nuabazar railway gate, Golapola, and the Nuabazar vegetable market.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) issued the curfew order to prevent any disturbances or violence during the eviction. Officials believe that there could be serious problems during this time.

The curfew rules state that people cannot leave their homes or move around, except for emergencies such as medical needs.
