Neuralink Corp, led by Elon Musk, has successfully implanted its brain-computer device in three patients. Musk shared this exciting news at an event in Las Vegas that was streamed live on X, his social media platform.
Neuralink is working on special brain implants that can help people with conditions like paralysis and ALS. These implants require a medical procedure where doctors open the skull to place electrodes in the brain. The first patient to receive the implant was Noland Arbaugh, who got it about a year ago.
Currently, Neuralink has two studies approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The first study, called the Prime Study, plans to involve five patients who can use their thoughts to control devices like computers and smartphones. The second study, named Convoy, will include three patients who can control assistive robotic arms. Musk mentioned that Neuralink plans to add about 20 to 30 more implants in 2025.
