Sir Ken McCallum, the head of MI5, spoke in Washington to honor the outgoing FBI director, Christopher Wray. He described all terrorist attacks as “sickening.” In his speech, he said, “Every attack is sickening to us as human beings.” This is especially true for those like Sir Ken and Mr. Wray, who work hard every day to stop terrorists and their harmful ideas.

Sir Ken talked about how MI5 and the FBI work closely together to fight terrorism. They help keep each other and their countries safe. He shared a story about a 2006 plot by Al Qaeda to attack flights from Heathrow Airport, which was stopped by MI5 and British police, saving many lives.

Mr. Wray, the FBI director, emphasized the importance of the FBI being independent and fair, not getting involved in political games. He said it’s important to follow the law and only conduct investigations when there’s a valid reason.

Both leaders highlighted how their partnership is crucial in today’s world, where threats can cross borders. Sir Ken looks forward to working with Mr. Wray’s successor to keep everyone safe. He also remembered the victims of the recent New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans, where 14 people tragically lost their lives
