A young boy, just eight years old, from Sabarkantha has been found to have a virus called human metapneumovirus (HMPV). This discovery makes him the third person in Gujarat to test positive for this virus.

The first case in Gujarat was reported on January 6, when a two-month-old baby boy from Rajasthan was diagnosed with HMPV. Fortunately, he received treatment and was later sent home from the hospital.

HMPV was first identified in 2001. It comes from a family of viruses known as Paramyxoviridae, which is similar to another virus called Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). HMPV spreads mainly through tiny droplets that come from a person’s mouth when they cough or sneeze. It can also spread if someone touches contaminated surfaces or has close contact with an infected person.

It’s important to stay cautious and practice good hygiene to prevent the spread of this virus.
