Governor La Ganesan Highlights Kindness on World Red Cross Day

On Thursday, La Ganesan, the Governor of Nagaland, spoke about the important values of humanity, service, and togetherness. He shared these thoughts during the World Red Cross Day celebration, which had the theme “On the side of humanity.”

The governor, who also leads the Indian Red Cross Society’s Nagaland Branch, praised Red Cross volunteers for their selfless work during crises. He said, “Your sacrifices truly show what humanity is all about.”

He highlighted how vital the Red Cross is during natural disasters and emphasized their role in helping remote communities, especially in Nagaland’s tough landscape. The governor called for everyone to join hands in kindness and encouraged more young people to get involved in helping others.

This year’s theme reminds us of three essential values: Hope, Empathy, and Kindness. Ganesan stated, “Hope is a light during dark times; empathy helps us feel others’ pain; and kindness speaks to everyone, even those who are hurt.”

He urged the youth of Nagaland to live a life of service and to be the agents of change needed to tackle issues like climate change, health problems, and inequality. “You are not just the leaders of tomorrow; you are the change makers of today,” he said.

The governor also stressed the importance of teaching kindness and empathy to children. He called on families and schools to help nurture these qualities, saying, “A world filled with empathy and kindness starts with our everyday actions.”

In closing, he honored the Red Cross founder, Jean Henry Dunant, and reminded everyone that, “We are not perfect, but we try to help as much as we can for as long as we can.”

World Red Cross Day has been celebrated since May 8, 1948, and its name changed to ‘World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day’ in 1984.
