Emotion and Cricket Unite at IPL 2025: A Tribute to Our Armed Forces

On an emotional night in Kolkata, Eden Gardens became more than just a cricket stadium. During the IPL 2025 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), thousands of fans sang “Maa Tujhe Salaam” together to show their support for India’s soldiers. This happened after India’s Operation Sindoor, a military action against terrorist camps in Pakistan.

Before the game, players from both teams, along with officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), honored the armed forces by standing along the boundary during the national anthem. A touching message on the big screen read, “Proud of the Indian Armed Forces,” reminding everyone of the sacrifices made by the country’s military.

However, once the game started, KKR struggled to perform. They batted first but only managed to score 179 runs in 20 overs. Although CSK fell to 60 runs with five wickets down, they made a strong comeback to win the match.

Despite KKR’s loss, the night was memorable for the strong sense of patriotism at Eden Gardens. Earlier, after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, BCCI showed their respect for the victims during a match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians. They held a minute of silence before the game and made announcements to honor those who lost their lives. Players and officials wore black armbands, and the commentary team talked about the importance of this tribute.

The BCCI decided to keep the game serious, with no celebrations or music. This helped everyone focus on honoring those affected by the tragedy.
