Trump Confirms Deaths of Hostages Held by Hamas – What’s Next?

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump reported that three people taken hostage by Hamas in Gaza have died. He mentioned that there are now 21 hostages believed to be still alive, down from 24. Trump didn’t say who those three people were or how he found out about their deaths. He added, “There’s 21, plus a lot of dead bodies.”

One of the hostages, Edan Alexander, was an American. After Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, several American bodies were also found in their possession.

In related news, Israel has announced plans to take full control of the Gaza Strip to find the hostages and defeat Hamas. This move would increase Israel’s military activities in the area and could face strong protests from other countries.

Additionally, the U.S. State Department reported that they helped 17 Americans and legal residents leave Gaza on Monday. They thanked the governments of Israel and Jordan for their assistance.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio also held a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Washington on Monday.
