Filmmaker Karan Johar is tired of people blaming him for ruining actors’ careers in Bollywood. In a recent chat with Raj Shamani on a podcast, Karan expressed that instead of thanking him for his work, some just want to criticize him. He said, “People say I’ve destroyed careers. I haven’t done that. I just did my job.” He pointed out that negativity spreads fast, while positivity often gets ignored.
Karan mentioned that people now like to criticize him. “If you love me or hate me, just don’t ignore me. If you’re talking about me, it means I’m important.” He also highlighted that while actors like Adarsh Gourav are now praised, his first movie with them, “My Name Is Khan,” is often forgotten. Karan believes that people focus more on the bad and forget about the good things he has done.
He shared, “I’ve worked with many actors, including newcomers. For instance, Lakshya Lalwani and Raghav Juyal say that roles in my films helped them. Yet, no one speaks about this. Everyone focuses on ‘nepo kids’ (children of famous actors), but I’ve also launched many talented actors and directors who weren’t famous before. Why doesn’t anyone notice that?”
Looking ahead, Karan is excited about his upcoming movie “Homebound,” starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa. This film is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2025. Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese is the executive producer for this film. He praised the director Neeraj Ghaywan, saying he was impressed with his first film, “Masaan,” and is excited about the story and culture in “Homebound.”
