The Supreme Court of India has made a big decision to share information about the money and assets owned by its judges. Starting from April 1, 2025, the court will publish the asset reports of judges on its website so that everyone can see. A statement from the court explained, “The Supreme Court has decided that judges’ asset declarations will be available for the public.”
The judges’ asset reports already submitted are now being uploaded, and future reports will be added when they are received. This move aims to keep the public informed and transparent about the judges’ financial status.
Additionally, the Supreme Court has also shared details about how judges are appointed to the High Courts and Supreme Court on its website. This includes information about what the High Court Collegium does, how state governments and the Union of India contribute, and how final decisions are made for appointments.
The court has published a list of judges approved for high court positions between November 9, 2022, and May 5, 2025. This list includes the judge’s name, the court they will serve in, how they were chosen (from legal practice or service), and other details, such as if they belong to special categories or are related to current or former judges.
For example, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna has around ₹55.75 lakh in savings and ₹1.06 crore in a savings scheme. He owns a two-bedroom flat in South Delhi and another larger flat near the Commonwealth Games Village. He also shares another flat in Gurugram with his daughter.
