Shah Rukh Khan Makes Historic Met Gala Debut, Challenges Stereotypes

Shah Rukh Khan made headlines when he walked the blue carpet at the Met Gala 2025, marking his first appearance at this famous fashion event. He became the most recognized Indian star ever to attend. People were excited about his stunning outfit, designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, but some were curious why he decided to go, considering he usually doesn’t mingle with Hollywood stars.

In an interview with the New York Times, Shah Rukh explained that he wanted to challenge some common misunderstandings about Asian actors in the West. He said, “The West tends to view you as this exotic character, like Peter Sellers in ‘Birdie Num Num.’”

At the Met Gala, Shah Rukh wore a striking black coat made of Tasmanian wool, complete with special Japanese buttons. The coat was long and stylish, paired with a soft shirt and elegant trousers. He also wore a beautiful kamarbandh and carried a fancy cane made of gold and decorated with precious stones.

Shah Rukh, who usually prefers casual wear like jeans and t-shirts, only had one request when it came to his outfit: he didn’t want shoulder pads that would make him look like an airplane!

The Met Gala is a big fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York. Alongside Shah Rukh, other Indian celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani, Diljit Dosanjh, and popular designers like Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra also attended the star-studded event.
