Tensions between India and Pakistan are rising after a deadly attack in Pahalgam. In response, security has been increased in several areas of the Kashmir valley, especially in Poonch and Rajouri districts. Police have set up checkpoints on many roads, checking vehicles, IDs, and bags of those passing through.
On May 5, the Indian Army reacted to unprovoked gunfire from Pakistan at the Line of Control (LoC). This gunfire came from Pakistani positions and included several areas like Kupwara, Baramulla, and more in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army stated they responded to these attacks proportionately.
Earlier, on May 4, the Indian Army had also acted against similar unprovoked attacks. On April 30, India closed its airspace to all Pakistani planes as a security step after the tragic Pahalgam attack where 26 people lost their lives. This closure will last from April 30 to May 23.
On April 29, military leaders from India and Pakistan spoke over the phone to address these ongoing ceasefire violations. India warned Pakistan to stop its unprovoked attacks along the LoC and International Border.
