Recently, heavy and unusual rainfall hit Andhra Pradesh, resulting in 10 deaths and damaging a lot of crops. The downpour started on Sunday morning and lasted through the night. Unfortunately, lightning struck nine people and a tree fell on one person, leading to these fatalities.
The worst-affected areas include Tirupati, Bapatla, Prakasam, Eluru, and Nellore. Many farmers are facing problems as around 5,500 acres of crops, especially paddy and maize, were harmed. For fruits, banana, papaya, and mango crops also suffered.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting to discuss the situation. He asked officials to quickly assess the damage and provide compensation to the farmers by Tuesday evening. He stressed the importance of getting help to farmers as soon as possible and making sure everyone who lost crops gets paid.
Naidu also reminded officials about the possibility of more rain and told them to warn the public. If alerts fail, he advised that workers should personally visit nearby communities to keep them informed. He ordered immediate compensation for any livestock that died due to lightning strikes.
Lastly, the government plans to buy all harvested paddy from farmers, ensuring that no farmer goes without selling their crop, even if it exceeds plans.
