Ajay Rai, the President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, recently criticized the central government about their lack of action following the Pahalgam terror attack. He said that instead of truly fighting terrorism, the government only talks big. He noted that while India bought Rafale fighter jets, they are just sitting unused in hangars, decorated with lemons and chilies to ward off bad luck. He pointed out that these jets should be used against terrorists, but instead, they are left to gather dust.
Rai expressed his concern for the victims of the attack, where 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed in Pahalgam. He questioned when the government would take real action against terrorists and those who support them.
The BJP, the ruling party, quickly responded. Leader CR Kesavan called Ajay Rai’s comments “disgraceful,” saying they undermine the morale of the armed forces. He accused the Congress of trying to hurt the reputation of India’s military. Another BJP leader, Pradeep Bhandari, criticized Rai, claiming that the Congress party resembles the “Pakistani Congress” for their comments.
The Prime Minister had a meeting after the attack, assuring that the armed forces have the freedom to respond as they see fit. The government also held an all-party meeting, where opposition parties promised support for any actions taken against those responsible for the attack.
