North Gujarat Shaken: 3.4 Magnitude Earthquake Reported With No Damage

A small earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4 shook north Gujarat early Saturday morning, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR). The quake happened around 3:35 AM, with its center located near Vav in Banaskantha district. Luckily, local officials reported that there were no injuries or damage to homes.

The ISR stated that the tremor was felt about 27 kilometers east-northeast of Vav and was 4.9 kilometers deep. Gujarat experiences many earthquakes and is considered a high-risk area. Over the past 200 years, there have been nine major earthquakes in the region. One of the most significant occurred on January 26, 2001, in Kutch. This earthquake was the third largest and caused severe damage, resulting in nearly 13,800 deaths and injuring around 167,000 people.

This recent tremor is a reminder of the region’s earthquake history, but thankfully, it seems to have caused no harm this time.
