New Task Force to Stop Communal Violence in Mangaluru After Shetty’s Murder

The State Government is going to create a special team called a task force that will focus on stopping fights between communities. Home Minister G Parameshwara shared this plan in Mangaluru after looking at the safety situation in the area. This new team will help ensure peace in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, two districts located along the Arabian Sea, especially after the murder of a Hindu activist named Suhas Shetty, who was killed by some young people.

The task force will work closely with local police and will be allowed to take strong actions against anyone involved in spreading communal tension. The government wants to bring lasting peace to this region, which has had trouble with violence in the past. Parameshwara also mentioned that the government will try to bring businesses to this area to create job opportunities for young people.

In connection with Shetty’s murder, the Mangaluru Police have arrested eight suspects. Shetty’s killing came just after the lynching of Ashraf, a person from Wayanad in Kerala. Investigations showed that Shetty was killed by a rival gang, which is believed to be funded by the brother of a man called Mohammed Fazil, who was murdered in July 2022. Shetty was linked to Fazil’s murder and had recently been released on bail.

The opposition party, BJP, wants a special investigation from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into Shetty’s death. Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta has even written to Home Minister Amit Shah, asking for a thorough investigation by the NIA.
