China’s Theme Park Fails with Painted ‘Mount Fuji’ – What Happened?

A theme park in northern China is drawing laughs after trying to make a small hill look like Japan’s famous Mount Fuji. They painted the top of the hill white and called it a “volcano.”

The park, named Universe Fantasy Land, is located in Hebei province and is designed as a place for city people from Beijing to escape and have fun. It features a fake mountain, a scenic lake, green fields, a white horse, and a cozy wooden cabin. The park also has planned “eruptions” where it releases pink smoke from the hill’s top.

However, many visitors are disappointed when they see the site in person. One tourist said, “It’s just a little hill with white paint on top. It doesn’t look like Mount Fuji at all.”

The tickets are pretty expensive, costing 98 yuan (about ₹1,130 INR), with a cheaper online price of 78 yuan. If you want to camp, that costs an extra 48 yuan per person. Visitors can take photos with a white horse at the park, but many feel the experience doesn’t match the pretty pictures they saw online.

“Real Mount Fuji is free to see from many places in Japan, but here you have to pay for a fake one,” joked another visitor. Mount Fuji is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is loved by many for its beauty.

This isn’t the first time China has built copies of famous landmarks. In Hebei province, you can find imitations of the Eiffel Tower, the Great Sphinx of Giza, and parts of the Great Wall.

While the park team believes they’ve improved since opening last September, for many, the white-painted hill is just a funny example of their ambitious but misguided plans.
