In a recent Indian Premier League match, Trent Boult, a fast bowler for the Mumbai Indians (MI), reached an impressive milestone of 300 T20 wickets. This happened while playing against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur. Boult is known for taking wickets early in the game, and he kept up his great form, even though he did give away a few runs.
In just 2.1 overs, Boult took three wickets for 28 runs, which means he had an economy rate of 12.90. He first bowled out young player Yashasvi Jaiswal, then caught Nitish Rana off his own bowling, and finally took the last wicket of Jofra Archer. Now, with 302 wickets from 257 T20 matches, Boult has an average of 25.10 and best figures of 4/13. He’s the third New Zealand bowler to reach this milestone, joining Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi.
Boult has been on fire lately, taking 11 wickets in his last five matches. He currently has 16 wickets in the league this season, with his best being 4/26, putting him in third place for the Purple Cap, awarded to the leading wicket-taker.
In the match, MI batted first, reaching a huge score of 217 runs for 2 wickets, thanks to openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma, who scored a combined 116 runs. After losing their top two batsmen, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya added another 94 runs. RR struggled during their chase and ended up with just 117 runs in 16.1 overs, leading to a loss by 100 runs.
Karn Sharma and Boult were the best bowlers for MI, while Jasprit Bumrah also did well with figures of 2/15. Rickelton was named “Player of the Match.” MI is now at the top of the league table, while RR is at the bottom and out of playoff contention.
