Tesla’s car sales in some European countries took a big hit in April. This drop is part of a trend that has been happening since the start of the year. People in Europe are buying more cars from China and some are unhappy with Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, because of his political views.
In Sweden, Tesla’s sales dropped by a shocking 80.7% in April, according to data released on Friday. Just one day earlier, Denmark showed that Tesla sales fell by 67.2%, and France saw a decline of 59.4%—this is the fourth month in a row that their sales have gone down. In Sweden, the number of new Teslas registered was the lowest since October 2022.
In March, Tesla’s sales in Europe had already dropped by 28.2%. The company is facing tough competition from other car brands, and many new electric cars from China are often cheaper. Also, some of Musk’s political views have led to protests against him and Tesla. This has even caused acts of vandalism at some Tesla stores and charging stations in the U.S. and Europe. Other countries, like Italy and Norway, will soon share their car sales data for April as well.
