New Delhi – Yoga guru Ramdev promised not to say anything bad or post on social media about Hamdard’s Rooh Afza drink anymore. This statement came during a court case in the Delhi High Court. The judge, Justice Amit Bansal, had earlier asked Ramdev to remove some controversial online posts he made about Hamdard’s drink. Ramdev claimed that the money from Rooh Afza was used to support madrasas and mosques, which upset many people, including the court.
Hamdard National Foundation India took legal action against Ramdev and his company, Patanjali Foods Ltd, because of these remarks. The court wanted Ramdev to promise he would not make similar statements in the future regarding his competitors’ products. Ramdev’s comments about “sharbat jihad” on Rooh Afza were called wrong by the court. This made Ramdev say he would quickly take down his videos and social media posts related to this issue.
On Friday, Hamdard’s lawyer mentioned that instead of removing a troubling YouTube video as ordered by the court, Ramdev only made it private. In response, Ramdev’s lawyer stated they have a lot of respect for the court and will follow its orders. The court agreed to give them 24 hours to comply and scheduled another hearing for May 9. On May 1, after the court threatened Ramdev with contempt for not removing the objectionable content, his lawyer assured that all such material would be deleted within a day.
