Delhi-NCR Chaos: Thunderstorms Bring Heavy Rain and Traffic Disruptions

People in Delhi and nearby areas woke up to severe thunderstorms and strong winds on Friday morning. Heavy rain led to waterlogging in many places, leaving roads flooded and causing traffic jams. Over 100 flights at Delhi airport were delayed due to the bad weather. The airport officials, DIAL, advised passengers to check their flight status with airlines to avoid issues.

In Gurugram, the rain caused serious waterlogging, trapping many commuters and office workers on the streets. Most parts of the city were affected, making it hard for people to get to work. The hardest-hit areas included service lanes near Narsinghpur on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, Basai Road, and various sectors like 4, 7, 9, 10, 48, and 57, along with Hanuman Chowk, Dhankot, and Sadar Bazar.

Police were busy helping to ease traffic jams, while city workers were trying to clear the water and fix clogged drains. Traffic was barely moving on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, and there were delays at Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, and IFFCO Chowk.

Delhi also faced heavy traffic due to the rain, which uprooted trees and caused cars to break down. Areas like the airport and Minto Road experienced significant flooding, causing issues for many commuters trying to get around.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the Majnu Ka Tila area and told officials to start fixing potholes and sewers to prevent waterlogging as the monsoon season approaches. “Waterlogging is a problem in many parts of Delhi because drains are clogged and roads are damaged. Officials have been told to find and fix these problem areas quickly, so we don’t have this trouble in the rainy season,” Gupta said.
