Pakistan Urges Trump to Help Calm Rising India Tensions After Terror Attack

Pakistan has asked U.S. President Donald Trump to help ease tensions with India following a serious attack in Pahalgam. In an interview with Newsweek, Pakistan’s ambassador to the U.S., Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, called Kashmir the “biggest source of problems” in the world and the main cause of conflict with India. Sheikh urged Trump to step in.

He said, “If we have a president focused on peace, this is a big opportunity to show that.” He highlighted Kashmir’s importance, especially because of the nuclear weapons held by India, Pakistan, and China.

India believes that all issues should be solved between both countries, as stated in the Shimla Agreement of 1972. However, Pakistan has often sought help from other nations to mediate in the Kashmir dispute. Following the attack that killed 26 people (including 25 Indians) in Pahalgam, Pakistan has threatened to withdraw from this agreement.

In recent days, some Pakistani leaders have claimed that India might attack soon, creating panic about potential war.

After the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the Indian military the freedom to decide how and when to respond. In response, Pakistan has increased its military presence along their border and has been on high alert, even violating ceasefire agreements for several days.
