MS Dhoni’s Future with CSK in Doubt After IPL 2025 Struggles

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanath spoke with MS Dhoni after CSK lost their fifth IPL 2025 match in a row at home, making them the first team to officially miss the playoffs. Their latest loss was against Punjab Kings, where they fell short by four wickets. This is the first time in IPL history that Dhoni won’t play in the finals for two consecutive years since CSK also missed the playoffs last season.

Dhoni returned to be captain after Ruturaj Gaikwad got hurt, but unfortunately, CSK’s luck didn’t change. At 43 years old, Dhoni has led the team to five championships and appeared in 11 finals, but this year CSK is struggling, sitting at the bottom of the table with just four wins in 10 games.

After the loss, Viswanath’s conversation with Dhoni was notable. They both seemed happy, but fans are curious about Dhoni’s future. When asked about playing next season, he joked, “I don’t know if I will play in the next game.”

Cricket legend Shaun Pollock said he wouldn’t be surprised if Dhoni doesn’t play for CSK next year. He mentioned that Gaikwad’s injury forced Dhoni to return, and that Dhoni has already accomplished so much in his career. He believes CSK can move forward with Gaikwad as captain.

Another cricket great, Adam Gilchrist, agreed. He said Dhoni is a true icon of cricket and has made a huge impact on the IPL. “He might not announce his future plans right away, leaving everyone guessing until next season,” Gilchrist added.
