A serious fire at the Rituraj Hotel in central Kolkata has resulted in the tragic loss of 14 lives. The police have arrested Akash Chawla, the hotel’s owner, and Gaurav Kapoor, the manager, for their roles in this disaster.
The fire started on Tuesday night at 8:10 PM while 88 guests were inside the six-story budget hotel located in the busy Burrabazar area. Emergency workers found 14 bodies, and 12 of them have been identified. Their families have received the bodies, while the authorities are working to identify the last two.
The police have filed charges against the owner and manager, including serious accusations related to culpable homicide. This means they could be held responsible for the deaths due to negligence. The hotel and its safety measures are being closely examined.
