It’s been two days since 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi amazed everyone with his 38-ball 101 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) game against the Gujarat Titans. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals, he hit 8 fours and 11 sixes, becoming the youngest player to score a century in IPL history! He also set a record for the second-fastest century ever, taking just 35 balls to reach his hundred..
His incredible performance left many cricket legends, including Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma, impressed. Even coach Rahul Dravid was so excited that he got up from his wheelchair to applaud him.
Before the IPL season started, the Rajasthan Royals made sure that Vaibhav felt welcomed. Dravid explained, “We wanted him to feel at home with the team.” They held training camps where he got to meet other players and coaches so that he wouldn’t feel nervous when the season began.
Dravid made it clear that the real credit for Vaibhav’s success goes to the young player and the support he has received from his family and others, saying, “This is just the beginning, and there’s a long way to go for him.”
Dravid also mentioned that protecting Vaibhav from all the attention and pressure is tough. “We can’t control what people say or write about him. It’s important to support him and help him deal with both successes and failures,” he said.
When Vaibhav was picked, people talked about his age, but Dravid emphasized that they chose him for his talent, not just because he’s young. He understands that the attention on Vaibhav is challenging, saying, “We just need to help him handle it and give him the support he needs.”
Regarding team captain Sanju Samson, who is recovering from an injury, Dravid said, “Sanju is getting better, but we have to be careful and check on him daily.”
