Shubman Gill Takes the Helm as Captain of Gujarat Titans in IPL

Shubman Gill has been an important player for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL. In 2022, he scored 483 runs and helped them win the title. He became the team’s captain in 2024 when Hardik Pandya left, showing that the franchise trusts him to lead.

Gill has already led the Indian team as a vice-captain and has experience that benefits his captaincy with the Titans. He consistently scores over 400 runs every season, and in the 2025 season, he has already made 389 runs in just nine matches. He brings not only runs but also stability and determination to the team.

Colonel Arvinder Singh, the COO of Gujarat Titans, explained why they chose Shubman as captain. He said, “We think long-term. When Hardik left, many thought other players could take over, but we wanted to invest in Shubman for the future, not just for one season. The results show that we made the right choice.”

Arvinder also highlighted that being a captain isn’t just about getting the title; it requires support and a system to help players grow. Shubman is eager to learn from experienced players like Jos Buttler and Kane Williamson. His leadership has improved greatly, and it benefits both the Titans and the national team.

Currently, the Gujarat Titans are in third place, having won six out of their nine matches. They are also focusing on improving the experience for fans who come to watch the games in Ahmedabad. Recently, for a match against Delhi Capitals, they added mist fans, provided sunscreen, and made drinking water available to keep fans comfortable in the heat.

Arvinder mentioned that many fans worry about the weather, especially when temperatures go above 40 degrees. For the game against Delhi Capitals, they welcomed around 54,000 fans and made several arrangements, including shuttles from the metro and assistance for elderly fans and children, to ensure everyone felt welcome.

He emphasized, “We are dedicated to improving the fan experience every year. Our aim is for fans to feel comfortable and valued while enjoying the game at the stadium.”
