Pahalgam’s Tourism Revival: Safety and Hope After Tragedy

Just days after a terrible attack in Pahalgam, a beautiful area in Jammu and Kashmir, things are looking better. Tourists, both Indian and from other countries, are coming back to visit.

A tourist from Kolkata, West Bengal, talked to ANI about her experience in Pahalgam. She said, “I was scared before coming here, but now it feels great.” Another tourist shared, “It feels safe here, and there is security too. So far, we haven’t had any problems, even if some tourist spots are closed.”

Many people are speaking positively about the warmth and hospitality of locals. One visitor said, “There is nothing to fear; everyone is nice here. Everyone should come!”

A traveler from Bangalore, who had planned a family trip to Kashmir three months ago, mentioned, “We didn’t cancel our plans because of what happened recently. It’s absolutely safe.”

Just a week ago, Pahalgam was deeply affected by a terrorist attack that sadly took 26 lives. Tourism, which used to see 5,000 to 7,000 visitors daily, dropped to just 50-100 people.

This week, local spots are coming back to life as both foreign and local tourists stroll through the town. People from Croatia and Serbia were seen enjoying their time in Pahalgam.

However, due to safety concerns, nearly 50 parks and tourist destinations in Jammu and Kashmir have been closed for now. Places like Dooshpathri, Kokernag, and Sinthan Top, among others, are not open to visitors.

In response to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an important meeting with defense officials. He made it clear that the army has the “complete freedom” to plan how to respond to the attackers. PM Modi promised that those responsible would face punishment beyond what they might expect.

On April 22, the attack took the lives of 26 people, including a Nepali citizen. This shocking event led the government to make strong diplomatic and military moves.
