VSSUT Takes Strict Action Against 100 Students for Rule Violations

In Sambalpur, the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology in Burla, Odisha, has taken action against 100 students for breaking rules. These rules include having poor class attendance and going to areas they weren’t allowed to visit.

On April 25, the Disciplinary Committee met and decided on punishments for the students. Most of those punished are in their third year, while others include 11 fourth-year students, 11 first-year students, two second-year students, and one MSc student.

The punishments include lowering their grades in their current classes and charging fines that range from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000. Some students will also have to participate in community service under the guidance of sports leaders or hostel supervisors.

Among the punished are six fourth-year girl students who visited Fishery Point at the Hirakud reservoir. This area is banned because a fellow student tragically drowned there while trying to help a friend earlier this month.

These students will have their grades lowered and be fined ₹5,000 each. They will also be expelled from their hostels. Around 24 other students are no longer allowed to hold any positions in clubs, sports teams, or receive medals and certificates for their work or achievements at school.

Most of these students have to submit a promise statement, along with their parents, to the office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare. They must vow to behave well during their time at VSSUT or face harsher punishments or expulsion.
