BSF Protests Missing Soldier’s Capture by Pakistan Rangers

In New Delhi and Amritsar, the Border Security Force (BSF) has raised concerns with the Pakistan Rangers about the disappearance of a soldier who accidentally crossed the border last week. Official sources revealed that this soldier, Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw, crossed the international border in Punjab on April 23. Normally, such incidents are resolved quickly, but Pakistan hasn’t been clear about Shaw’s location or when he might return. This uncertainty could be tied to increasing tensions between India and Pakistan after a recent attack in Pahalgam.

Officials reported that the BSF sent a formal complaint to the Pakistan Rangers. Although there have been several meetings between the two sides, there are still no updates on when the soldier will come back. The soldier is believed to be at a Rangers base near the Lahore-Amritsar area.

Social media posts from Pakistan showed Shaw blindfolded, sitting in a vehicle, and standing under a tree with his rifle and other gear on the ground. Shaw was part of a group meant to protect Indian farmers near the border and he accidentally crossed into Pakistan while trying to find a place to rest.

Meanwhile, Shaw’s pregnant wife and son visited Punjab and spoke with senior officers from his unit, who assured her that he would return home soon. “We are doing everything we can to secure his release,” said a senior officer. They believe that the Pakistani officials are considering their options in light of the current tensions between the two countries.
