Assam Security Forces Kill 3 NSCN Militants in Dramatic Encounter

Guwahati: Three people suspected to be members of the NSCN group were killed by security forces in Dima Hasao district, Assam, on Tuesday. They had come from Nagaland to ask for money from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

After a tip-off, Assam Police and the Assam Rifles searched for these militants for about 60 hours. They found them between N Kubin and Herakilo, near Haflong. When the two sides met, a lot of gunfire broke out. The fight lasted for about 3 to 4 hours, and the three militants were killed right away.

Security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, a pistol, and lots of ammunition from the scene. A top police officer explained, “The area is a bit remote, and we are still looking for more information.” The police have started investigating the incident and are trying to find other militants who might have been with the three who were killed.

The Assam Police also shared that a part of NSCN had sent a letter asking for money from the NHAI, which is working on a major project in Dima Hasao. Once the security team encountered the armed group, they fought back strongly. After the gunfight, the bodies of the three suspected militants were found, and police believe they were from a faction of NSCN.

There are concerns from local people, who are upset that militants came to their peaceful district to cause trouble. One resident said, “Dima Hasao is a calm place, and nobody wants violence here.”
