On Sunday, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke on the phone with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. They talked about a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Jaishankar emphasized that the world must have zero tolerance for terrorism.
The attack happened on April 22 and tragically claimed the lives of 26 people, including one person from Nepal. The victims were shot near a popular tourist spot called Baisaran Meadow. This incident is one of the worst in the area since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which killed 40 security personnel.
Around the world, many are condemning this attack. In Queens, New York, the Dawoodi Bohra community gathered to honor the victims with a moment of silence. They expressed their sorrow over the loss of innocent lives.
In Toronto, Canada, over 500 people from various backgrounds held a candlelight vigil to protest against the attacks. This event was organized by different Hindu groups and others who gathered and chanted against terrorism. They called on the Canadian government to label Pakistan as a terrorist state.
Nepalese lawmakers also expressed their sadness about the Pahalgam attack and shared their condolences for the families affected. Four lawmakers met on Sunday to discuss the issue and called for everyone to come together to fight against terrorism. Former minister Anita Devi Shah stated, “Terrorism does not have a religion or a country. The world should unite to combat it.”
