Beware! Fake WhatsApp Donations for Indian Army Exposed

On Sunday, the Ministry of Defence warned the public about a fake message circulating on WhatsApp. This message falsely claims that the government has opened a bank account to collect donations for modernizing the Indian Army. The Ministry made it clear that this message is not true and advised everyone to be careful and not get tricked by such scams.

The misleading message talks about donating money for the Indian Army and claims it’s for soldiers who have been injured or killed. It wrongly mentions a Cabinet decision and even brings up actor Akshay Kumar as if he is behind the idea. The account details provided in the message are incorrect, causing donations to fail.

The Ministry reminded everyone that the government has already set up many support programs for soldiers who are hurt or killed during service. In 2020, the ‘Armed Forces Battle Casualty Welfare Fund’ was established to give quick financial help to the families of soldiers who lose their lives or are seriously injured in action. The Indian Army manages this fund.

You can directly donate to the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund if you want to help. The PIB Fact Check also shared a warning on X (formerly Twitter) about this misleading message. They highlighted that there is no official bank account for donations to modernize the Indian Army or buy weapons. They even included a screenshot of the false message, clearly marked as misleading.
