West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that families of three people who died in a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, will receive special help of ₹10 lakh each. The attack happened when these individuals were on vacation. One of those who died was an Indian army soldier, Havildar Jhantu Ali Sheikh, who died while fighting terrorists.
Banerjee said that Ali’s family will receive support too. His wife will be given a job by the state government. She also announced that Ali’s children can go to school in Kolkata, and his widow will get the help she needs.
In addition, she talked with the family of Bitan Adhikari, a software worker from Kolkata who also lost his life in the attack. Since Bitan was the main provider for his elderly parents, she arranged a monthly pension of ₹10,000 for his father to help with medical costs. Bitan’s compensation of ₹10 lakh will be shared between his wife and parents. The two other victims, Samir Guha and Manish Ranjan, will also each receive ₹10 lakh.
Banerjee also promised job assistance to any of the other victims’ families who want it. She expressed her commitment to support all affected families during this tough time.
