Villagers Readying Bunkers Amid Increased Tensions in Jammu and Kashmir

In Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, villagers are getting ready for possible trouble after a recent attack in Pahalgam. People living near the border with Pakistan, in places like Salotri and Karmarha, are cleaning and stocking their underground bunkers with food and other supplies, just in case they need to take shelter again.

For many years, these areas had been calm, but now the villagers are worried. Videos show them organizing blankets, beds, and food supplies to be ready for any threats. One villager from Karmarha said, “People had forgotten about the bunkers, but now we are cleaning them again. There’s fear, but we hope for peace in the valley.”

Another villager expressed strong support for the Indian government and military. He condemned the attack in Pahalgam and said they are ready to help protect their community, even if it means risking their lives. He said, “We stand by our army and government. We are prepared to help whenever needed.”

These underground shelters, often called ‘Modi bunkers,’ are crucial for residents in high-risk areas during times of conflict. Built mostly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance, these bunkers have saved many lives during times of cross-border firing. The government has supported the construction of these bunkers in places like Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, and Kupwara.

Now, as fears rise, residents are fixing up these bunkers, which had been neglected earlier. Security forces are on high alert, and the authorities are advising everyone to stay safe and watchful.
