IMEC: A New Era of Fast, Affordable Global Trade Solutions

Former President Ram Nath Kovind recently spoke about the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) at a big event in Dubai. He said the IMEC is more than just a trade route; it’s like a bridge connecting different cultures. He noted that as the world is becoming more connected, partnerships like IMEC help with economic growth and bring people together. India, once considered a developing country, is now seen as a leader in technology, diplomacy, and innovation.

The event, hosted by Logistics Shakti, brought together over 400 leaders from different industries, including top CEOs, investors, and government officials from India, the UAE, and other countries along the IMEC. Kovind highlighted that shipments from India to Europe through IMEC will take around 40% less time and cost 30% less than shipping via the traditional Suez Canal. This shows how the corridor can improve global trade.

The two-day event featured important talks from various speakers about the challenges and opportunities in global supply chains. They talked about how working together and being innovative is crucial for building strong and sustainable trade systems. Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, a leader in the UAE’s Ministry of Economy, mentioned that the UAE is using technology to improve trade. He shared that the UAE’s non-oil foreign trade reached a record $815 billion in 2024. Through initiatives like the Trade Tech Accelerator and the IMEC, they aim to create faster, greener, and more effective supply chains.

Meenakshi Lekhi, a former minister, explained that the IMEC isn’t meant to compete with routes like the Suez Canal; it’s an important alternative that helps keep trade moving when other routes face issues. The IMEC connects India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and more, making transportation quicker, cheaper, and safer. It shows how trade growth is connected to security in the region.

The SCM Middle East Conclave and Awards 2025 highlighted the importance of the region as a key player in global trade, paving the way for better teamwork, innovations, and sustainable growth in logistics and supply chains.
