Islamabad: On Friday, for the second day in a row, Pakistan updated foreign diplomats in Islamabad about growing tensions with India following a deadly attack in Pahalgam. The Foreign Secretary, Amna Baloch, held a meeting with diplomats to discuss the situation and reject India’s claims linking Pakistan to the attack.
A terrible shooting in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on Tuesday killed 26 people, mostly tourists. This was the worst attack in the region since a similar incident in 2019. The Resistance Front (TRF), linked to the banned group Lashkar-e-Taiba, took responsibility for the attack.
Baloch warned about India’s aggressive actions and assured that Pakistan would respond strongly to any threats. In response, India decided to close its Integrated Check Post at Attari, restricting travel for Pakistani nationals under a special visa scheme. All existing valid visas for Pakistani citizens were also cancelled, and medical visas will only be valid until April 29.
In a similar move, Pakistan closed the Wagah border to Indian travelers, cancelled Indian visas under the same scheme, and asked military advisers at the Indian High Commission to leave. Pakistan stated that all cross-border travel from India would stop, except for those who had already entered and needed to exit by April 30.
On Thursday, Baloch condemned what she called India’s misinformation campaign against Pakistan, stating it would hinder peace and stability in the region. She emphasized that Pakistan consistently rejects terrorism in all forms.
