Luigi Mangione Pleads Not Guilty in UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder Case

Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old man, has pleaded not guilty to serious charges after being accused of shooting Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, and causing his death. Mangione appeared in a Manhattan federal court wearing a prison jumpsuit.

If found guilty, Mangione could face the death penalty. An expert explained that if he is executed, it might be painful and take a long time.

Attorney General Pam Bondi described Thompson’s murder as a “planned and shocking attack” and has asked prosecutors to pursue the death penalty. She said this is part of a larger effort to stop violent crime in America.

Mangione’s lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, disagrees with the government’s claims. She argues that they did not follow the proper procedures in this case.

Prosecutors believe Mangione is dangerous because he wanted to harm a whole industry and tried to escape law enforcement after the crime by fleeing New York City.

In addition to federal charges, Mangione also faces charges in New York and Pennsylvania, including first-degree murder and weapons charges.
