CM Saini Calls for Unity to Combat Drug Addiction in Haryana

Chandigarh, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recently spoke about how ‘khaps’ (community groups) can help our youth fight against drug addiction, which is damaging to everyone. He promised that the government would support these groups in their efforts.

While meeting khap representatives in Jind, Saini encouraged them to start a campaign to keep young people away from drugs and help make Haryana a drug-free place. “We need to protect our youth from the dangers of drug addiction,” he said. He also emphasized that getting young people involved in sports could lead to them winning more medals and bringing pride to Haryana.

Earlier, Saini kicked off the ‘Drug-free Haryana Cyclothon 2.0’ from Jind. He mentioned that everyone—khaps, youth, women, teachers, and all community members—needs to unite to win the battle against drugs. “This bike rally shows our commitment to fighting drugs, raising awareness, and eliminating addiction together,” he said.

Saini recognized the important role khap panchayats have played in Haryana’s history. “They have always been a part of our society. Today, as we fight against the drug problem, their participation shows that they are not just upholding traditions, but also helping create positive changes,” he added.

He also warned that money from illegal drugs supports terrorism worldwide, explaining that fighting against drugs can help reduce that threat. “If you see someone struggling with addiction, help them instead of pushing them away. Change starts at home, so let’s all take action,” Saini urged.

The cyclothon began on April 5 in Hisar and has traveled through many areas. It will continue to Barwala and then finish in Sirsa on April 27 after passing through Fatehabad.
