The Indian stock market went down on Thursday, ending a seven-day rise. This drop happened because some investors decided to take profits, especially in financial companies. There were also rising tensions between India and Pakistan after a deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people.
The main stock index, the BSE Sensex, fell by 315.06 points (0.39%), closing at 79,801.43. The Nifty 50 index also dropped by 82.25 points (0.34%), ending at 24,246.70.
Experts believe the market decline is normal after a big jump. Vinod Nair, who is the Head of Research at Geojit Investments, said that this small drop is due to investors cashing in their profits. The global markets are also facing some challenges, especially with U.S.-China trade troubles. Although some big companies in the food and household goods sector reported weak results recently, things could get better soon thanks to lower input costs and increased demand from cities and villages.
Ajit Mishra from Religare Broking noted that the market was quiet and trading in a small range as investors focused on stock selection. He suggests looking for good buying opportunities when the market dips.
Meanwhile in the U.S. Stock Market…
In the U.S., stock markets had mixed results. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq went up, while some other indexes stayed flat. Investors were trying to make sense of mixed corporate results and news related to the trade war between the U.S. and China. There was initial optimism about potentially lowering tariffs, but uncertainty remained.
