Gavaskar’s Strong Message of Peace After Pahalgam Terror Attack

On Thursday, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar expressed his anger on live TV about the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people at the Baisaran meadow. This attack happened just before the IPL 2025 game between Royal Challengers Bangaluru and Rajasthan Royals in Bengaluru.

Gavaskar shared his condolences with the families who lost their loved ones, saying, “This has affected all of us Indians. I have a question for the attackers and those who support them: What has this violence changed? For the last 78 years, not a single inch of land has changed hands. So, after another 78,000 years, nothing will change. Why can’t we live in peace and make our country stronger?”

During the previous IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, all players and officials wore black armbands to honor the victims. They also took a minute of silence to remember those who lost their lives. There were no cheerleaders, fireworyks, or music during the game, and the sightscreen displayed the message: “Let’s all stand for peace and humanity.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also condemned the attack, calling it “ghastly and cowardly.” Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed deep sorrow for the innocent lives lost and extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving families.
